Brazilian women need to consider delaying pregnancy as pandemic situation worsens

(MENAFN) Brazilian women were urged by health officials to delay the decision to being pregnant, “if possible”, according to a statement released Friday by the country’s Ministry of Primary Health Care secretary, Raphael Parente, in the middle of a worsening of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Parente expressed “If possible, postpone the pregnancy a little bit, until a better moment, when you can have your pregnancy more calmly,” adding that “We know that at the time of Zika, during one or two years there was a decrease in pregnancies in Brazil, and then it increased back again”.

Amid Zika outbreak in Brazil between 2015 and 2016, women bearing in mind having children in the period suspended plans over concern that babies would be born with microcephaly.
