Qatar- QU's Virtual Book Fair opens, features over 300 printing presses


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar University (QU), in partnership with Dar Lusail publishers and distributors, kicked off the five-day-long 'The Virtual Book Fair yesterday with the participation of several publishing houses in Qatar.

The launch of the virtual exhibition featured more than 300 printing presses. The activities include many diverse intellectual and cultural seminars with international and local publishing houses' participation.

The virtual book fair aims to bring all publishing houses together under one roof virtually and provide variety to the public for five days. The seminars focus on development, cultural advancement, and culture promotion, which are also open for the public to participate actively. The seminar programme was inaugurated with a seminar entitled ‘Emotional Intelligence Engineering' presented by Dr. Daraa Moujib Al Dossary, Training and Institutional Development Advisor.

Seminar on the third day of the exhibition will be held by Dr. Muhammad Al-Noaimi, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Qatar University, titled ‘American foreign policy towards the Middle East.' On Wednesday, a seminar will be held by Dr. Jassim Sultan, an advisor for strategic planning and author of the Renaissance Project series on Renaissance. On the last day of the event, Dr. Abdelhak Belabed, Associate Professor of Arabic Language at College of Arts and Sciences Qatar University, will hold a seminar titled ‘Systematic Reading and Changing Our Habits of Reading Comprehension.'

During his speech, Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, President of Qatar University, said: 'We believe in working towards betterment and improvement despite the pandemic. The virtual book fair provides an opportunity to all those who wish to explore new books and research new discoveries. Dr. Hassan added that Europe's first Arabic book fair launched the idea of a virtual book exhibition.

Dar Lusail Publishing house took the initiative to participate in the first virtual session of the Arab Book Fair in Europe, organized by the Swedish company named Nordic Digital World.

This exhibition featured Arab writers and several cultural institutions in Europe. The Qatar University Library initiated this virtual exhibition in cooperation with the Dar Lusail Publishing and Distribution House. On the sidelines of the virtual exhibition, a cultural program will be held. A group of Arab writers and philosophers will participate through seminars and workshops held in virtual halls.
