Qatar- Bangladesh embassy marks 50 years of country's independence


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The embassy of Bangladesh in Qatar celebrated the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's Independence and National Day on March 26 with various daylong events. The day's activities began with the hoisting of the national flag by Bangladesh's ambassador to Qatar, Md Jashim Uddin, on the embassy premises in the morning of March 26.
A discussion meeting was held on the significance of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence. On the occasion, messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were read out and a video message delivered by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, was displayed.
In his remarks, the ambassador paid deep respect to the 'Father of the Nation', Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and all the martyrs of the great liberation war. He said the 50th anniversary of independence is an important milestone in Bangladesh's national life and highlighted the successes achieved under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
In the evening, a reception was organised at a local hotel to mark the day while following the Covid-19-related local restrictions.
HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Yousef bin Mohamed al-Othman Fakhro graced the reception as the guest of honour. Director of Protocol ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, dean of the Diplomatic Corps and embassy officials were present on the occasion.
The event began by playing the national anthems of Qatar and Bangladesh, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the golden jubilee of independence. In his speech, the Bangladesh ambassador mentioned the socioeconomic successes of Bangladesh in its 50-year history and urged to fulfil the dream of the 'Father of the Nation' under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
He also lauded the remarkable progress being made by the brotherly country of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The ambassador pledged to work closely to further strengthen the excellent bilateral relations by exploring and expanding new avenues of co-operation.
The programme was broadcast live on digital platforms for expatriate Bangladeshis in Qatar.
