Kuwait- US Senate passes USD 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, March 6 (KUNA) -- The US senate passed Saturday a USD 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.
The Senate passed the bill by 50-49, which goes next back to the House of Representatives for a separate vote before President Joe Biden signs it into law.
The package includes a third round of direct stimulus checks of up to USD 1,400 for individuals, a USD 400 weekly unemployment insurance benefits through August 29 and USD 350 billion in aid for state and local governments.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said in a statement "the Senate has now passed President Biden's American Rescue Plan to provide long-awaited relief to Americans suffering from the economic impacts of COVID-19 and to boost our capacity to save lives by ramping up the deployment of testing and vaccines."
"On Tuesday, the House will consider the Senate's amended version of the American Rescue Plan, so that we can send this bill to President Biden for his signature early next week," he added. (end)
