Somalia: Operations leave 10 al-Shabab fighters dead near Jowhar


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Mar. 2 a special operation close to Jowhar town, the administrative capital of Hirshabelle State in Somalia conducted by Somali National Army's (SNA) elite forces left ten al-Shabab fighters dead and wounded many others.

The operation was carried out after an intelligence report concerning looming al-Shabab assault aiming at locals, said Hassan Mohamed Osman, Commander of Commandos Unit 7 to SNA Radio Mogadishu.

Osman noted: "we killed 10 terrorist militants and injured several others in a successful military operation in which we conducted Gambole location about 48 Km to Jowhar town in middle Shabelle region in Hirshabelle State this morning."

He did not elucidate if there were losses on SNA's Commandos division in the operation.
