EU backs Moldovan leader's improvement plan


(MENAFN) On Sunday, Feb. 28 President of the European Council Charles Michel reaffirmed the European Union (EU)'s backing for Moldovan leader Maia Sandu and her improvement plan.

The presidency's press service said that Michel, while assembling with Sandu in his visit to Moldova, stated: "I am sending a clear message of support from the European Union for further reforms and the fight against corruption."

Michel, who was paying a visit to the capital of Moldova, the first destination in his journey to Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine between Feb. 28 and March 3, noted: "the EU is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova."

He stated: "fighting corruption and strengthening the rule of law are the only way forward. The president's very ambitious agenda is the right direction to strengthen relations with the EU." Michel added: "our support goes hand in hand with reforms."
