1978 -- Kuwait signs an agreement for conservation of marine environment and a protocol for regional cooperation on protecting Gulf waters from oil slicks and other damage.
1980 -- Amiri decree is declared applying customs taxes and other fees on all commodities and materials entering Kuwait with no exception unless a special decree was issued.
1983 -- The new headquarters of Kuwait National Museum was inaugurated. The museum is of modern design and its architecture is in line with Arab and Islamic style.
1988 -- Fahaheel expressway was inaugurated, connecting the Capital with southern Areas.
1991 -- Coalition forces launch land operation for the liberation of Kuwait from occupying Iraqi forces, advancing as far as locations close to the Euphrates River. Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein orders withdrawal of his troops from Kuwait but torched over 700 oil wells.
1991 -- Al-Qurain battle takes place between 19 young Kuwaitis and Iraqi forces, lasting for 10 hours. Twelve of the Kuwaitis fell as martyrs and seven others were not hurt.
2014 -- Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) signed a three-year contract with Belgium-based Kuwait Petroleum International Lubricants (KPIL) to provide KNPC's refineries and local markets with lubricants. The deal was worth KD 6.205 million.
2015 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah open a 170,000-square-meter Botanical Garden at Bayan Palace.
2016 -- Kuwaitis Yaqoub Al-Shatti and Asil Al-Roumi win the first and second places at the third Arab bowling competition held in Doha, Qatar.
2018 -- The UN Security Council, headed by Kuwait, unanimously approves draft resolution 2401 (presented jointly by Kuwait and Sweden), calling for a 30-day truce in Syria in order to entry of allow humanitarian aid.
2020 -- Kuwait Oil Company began operation of heavy oil project in northern Kuwait, considered as KOC's largest venture.
2020 -- The Health Ministry announces the first coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Kuwait, which included five individuals returning from the Iranian city of Mashhad. (end)
