Afghanistan: 27 prisoners liberated from Taliban prison, 1 militant killed


(MENAFN) On Thursday, Jan. 21, the military stated that twenty-seven civilians were liberated from a Taliban prison on Wednesday evening when Afghan government forces initiated a special action in the southern Helmand province.

Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps stated in a report: "the special operation was launched in Nahri Sarraj district. A gunfight took place after troops arrived at the site of the militants' detention center and one armed militant was killed."

The report noted that one ex-soldier was amongst the liberated people.

The report added that the liberated people got medical treatment after being sent to an army campsite.
