UN launches $565 million appeal to help blast-hit Lebanon

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington, August 15 (Petra)-The United Nations and humanitarian partners has launched a $565 million appeal Friday to help Lebanese people affected by the explosion at Beirut's port, which has killed 171 people.
In a press statement, the UN said the funds would be used to support Lebanon as it moves from immediate life-saving humanitarian relief towards rebuilding its shattered economy, and "eventually to longer-term economic recovery."
Appeal money would target improving food security, help rebuild damaged hospitals and schools and provide cash for shelter to families with uninhabitable homes, according to the UN statement.
