Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan ministers negotiate GERD operations in Washington meeting


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- Ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan and their delegations met in the nation's capital from February 12-13 "to continue negotiations on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)," the Treasury announced Thursday evening.
"The Ministers reviewed the progress achieved by their technical and legal teams and continued their discussions on the remaining issues necessary for a final agreement," the Treasury said in a statement in regards to the ministerial meeting, which included the Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin and the President of the World Bank (WB) David Malpass, participating as observers.
It added that the Ministers reaffirmed "the importance of transboundary cooperation in the development of the Blue Nile to improve the lives of the people of Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan, and their shared commitment to concluding an agreement."
On his part, Mnuchin said in this regard that the US, "with technical support" from the WB, has agreed, "To facilitate the preparation of the final agreement for consideration by the Ministers and heads of state for conclusion by the end of the month." (end)
