Given the positive reviews and a wonderful opening, Mission Mangal emerged as Akshay's highest opener so far.

The movie managed to beat his 2018 release Gold, which had made a collection of Rs. 25.25 crore on the first day.

Is August 15 Akshay's lucky date for his films' releases?
Fact

To note, Mission Mangal happens to be Akshay's fourth release on Independence day after Rustom (2016), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Gold (2018). And, each of them turned out to be a winner at the box office, making August 15 Akshay's lucky date.

Clash

Meanwhile, John's Batla House, which also released yesterday, was unfortunately overshadowed by Mission Mangal, even though it opened to decent reviews.

To note, Batla House has been inspired by the controversial 2008 encounter operation, which took place in Delhi.

It also has Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, Vikram Gokhale and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles.

John unfazed with this clash, says "Akshay is dear friend"
Reaction

Although Mission Mangal is a clear winner for now, John remains quite unfazed with this box office clash.

Talking about it, the Madras Cafe actor once had stated, "Akshay and I are very dear friends, we really get along. In fact, just the other day we texted each other. There is absolutely nothing there. We are just releasing two films on the same day."

Piracy

Meanwhile, reports have emerged which say that both Mission Mangal and Batla House have fallen prey to piracy.

As per a FilmiBeat report, both have been leaked online by piracy giant Tamilrockers, within hours of their releases.

Reportedly, the films are available in HD print on the website.

Whether this illegal release would affect their box office collections, only time will tell.
