Saudi Arabia wins five Medals at JBMO 2019 in Cyprus


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, June 24, 2019, SPA-- Saudi Arabian team participating in the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO) 2019 currently being held in Cyprus won two gold medals in the competition. It is the first time, Saudi Arabia wins two gold medals at the same competition.
Students Marwan Khayat and Hamzah Alshaiki from Makkah won two gold medals, Mohammed AlShehri from Riyadh and Mohammed AlDubaisi form Eastern Region won two silver medals while Mouath AlGhamdi from Makkah won a bronze.
In last year competition held in Rhodes Island, Greece, Saudi Arabia won one silver and two bronzes. It won 7 silvers and 10 bronzes at JBMO competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
This year, the Kingdom ranked fourth among 18 participating countries with thin difference to the third place, said Dr. Saud AlMathami, Secretary General of King Abdulaziz & His Companion Foundation for the Giftedness and Creativity.
The Saudi Achievement at JBMO is a result of cooperation among the Ministry of Education, Mawhibah and King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST).
