Greek Pres. calls on Turkey to make peace

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, June 8 (KUNA) -- Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos called Saturday on Turkey to make peace based on "full respect" of both European and international laws.
Athens sends a message to the neighboring nations, mainly Turkey, that Greek people are determined to live in peace with everyone and share the principles and values of this culture, Pavlopoulos was quoted by Greek news agency as saying during his visit to the Delos Island.
Relations between Greece and Turkey have been strained, mainly after Athens rejected to extradite Turkish fugitives to Turkey following the 2016 failed coup attempt.
The two countries exchanged accusations that ships and warplanes, belonging to each other, staged "provocations" in the Aegean Sea.
In addition, there are ongoing tensions in the eastern Mediterranean region between the two sides, with the beginning of oil and gas exploration. (end)
