Afghanistan- Taliban Urged to Agree on Ceasefire




(MENAFN - Daily Outlook Afghanistan) PUL-I-KHUMRI - The Consultative Peace Jirga representatives from northern Baghlan province have called on the Taliban to agree on a ceasefire with the government.
They expressed the view during a meeting with local government officials here.
Syed Kamal Wardak, one of the representatives, said Taliban's emphasis on talks showed they were interested in talks.
In Consultative Peace Jirga, we demanded the Taliban to agree to ceasefire and end the ongoing conflict, but they not only rejected it but accelerated the conflict.
A number of speakers shared their views during the meeting and again asked the Taliban to agree on truce.
Governor Ahmad Basim Farid said the Taliban have fought in Afghanistan under the name of Islam, but held talks with foreigners.
'If the Taliban really want peace, they should positively respond to the demand of the Grand Peace Jirga and warned the people could offer any kind of resistance to any kind of conflict to honor their commitment.
He said the government wanted an honorable peace and the Taliban should positively respond to them.
The Consultative Peace Jirga was held from April 29 till May 3. The issued a 23-point statement which suggested talks and reconciliation to bring peace and stability in the country. (Pajhwok)
