(MENAFN- PRLog) Sunshine Ace Hardware collected $46,932 in donations to help support the Southwest Florida Muscular Dystrophy Association in its mission of providing critical resources, research and summer camp opportunities to children at no cost.
To raise funds, customers all at nine Sunshine Ace locations were asked at checkout whether they wanted to purchase a colorful paper shamrock for $1 or $5, or round up their purchases to the nearest dollar. Several stores held weekend cookouts, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs in exchange for donations. The company also donated proceeds from a raffle and food sales at its fourth annual Reel in the Sunshine fishing expo.
"Sunshine Ace has supported the MDA for many years, and this is the ninth year we've participated in the MDA Shamrocks fundraising program," said Sunshine Ace President Michael Wynn. "It's extremely gratifying to see our loyal customers and team members so willing to support a good cause. Their generosity will go a long way toward helping those impacted by MDA."
Since joining the Shamrocks program in 2011, Sunshine Ace has collected $283,000 to support the Southwest Florida MDA. Now in its 37th year, the MDA Shamrocks program is the largest St. Patrick's Day fundraising program of its kind and has raised more than $323 million to help children and adults living with muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other diseases that severely weaken muscle mobility and strength.
In addition to MDA, Sunshine Ace supports a number of local charitable organizations, including the Children's Miracle Network, American Red Cross, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Brooke's Legacy Animal Rescue and many other nonprofits.
