PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic – Caribbean News Now sat down with Gilda Noboa, director of sales and marketing for the USA and Canada for the Wyndham Resorts International group at the 20th annual Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) in March, 2019 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, hosted and organized by the Dominican Republic Association for Hotels and Tourism (ASONAHORES) along with the ministry of tourism for the Dominican Republic.
Along with the anticipation of the benefits that will accrue from the contacts made at the DATE trade show, Noboa spoke to us about the impact Wyndham is making in sports tourism and millennial based tourism not just in the Dominican Republic, but around the Caribbean and Central American region.
For starters, during the weekend of August 31 to September 1, for the second year in a row the Wyndham is hosting and co-organizing the off-road triathlon, the Xterra Samana, 2019 in Samana, Dominican Republic on the North Eastern section of the island near the vicinity of the Viva Wyndham V Samana resort, the Coson Bay Beach hotel and the Sublime Samana hotel.
The Xterra Samana, 2019 will have a trail run and off-road triathlon along with the stand-up paddle and a kid's run discipline. Local and international athletes are already confirming their attendance and also will have a chance to qualify for the World Cup in Maui, Hawaii.
Noboa also made us aware of the upcoming triathlon to be held in The Bahamas on November 2, 2019 in Freeport, Grand Bahama at the Viva Wyndham, Fortuna Beach all-inclusive resort.
The triathlon, titled the 'Conchman Triathlon' will be a is a 1k swim, 25k bike ride and 5k run from the Taino beach.
Noboa said a lot of Americans are to participate in this year's Grand Bahama triathlon and Wyndham is here to support the athletes and the event goers in their experience to Grand Bahama for the event.
When asked as to how exactly did the Wyndham resorts' group get involved in sponsoring the various sports tourism business and activities in the Caribbean like the Xterra Samana, Noboa claimed that it was just a matter of her company being diligent on providing adequate promotions for these events as well as offering rooms for guests and participants at key rates and that the Wyndham decided to support these events in all phases no matter what it was as it would only help all sides.
Noboa also said that the Wyndham is not merely in the business of now supporting sports tourism events, but she also made mention that this year's Spring break season was a huge success for them at the Viva Fortuna Wyndham in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Noboa claims that the events and activities for students and millennials alike was fantastic and they will continually build on their offerings for next year.
While the Wyndham has placed themselves in the position to cater to a younger and more vibrant demographic, Noboa says that the Wyndham tries its hardest to promote all types of events at their properties around the Caribbean, from concerts to meetings and large trade shows in an attempt to offer something for every group and demographic.
