Oman- 72 cruise ships bring 165,000 tourists to PSQ in Q1 this year

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has announced that Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) received 72 cruise ships in the first quarter of this year.

These ships carried 165,000 tourists from different countries. The cruise tourism season begins in October and ends in April.

The Ministry of Tourism plays a major role in the development of this sector to promote the sultanate as a destination for cruise ships, in coordination with the government agencies and private sector companies.

It also coordinates with the cruise ship operators by providing facilities, permits and holding promotional campaigns.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications last week granted the right to manage and operate the Khasab and Shinas ports to Marafi Company of the Oman Global Logistics Group (Asyad).

This is in line with the government's strategy to develop Omani ports distributed along the coasts of the sultanate.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications seeks to promote and develop the logistics sector in a sustainable and integrated manner and implement plans to improve and enhance the administrative, regulatory and operational efficiency of the ports in the country.

There is a plan to work on the development of some ports like Sohar, Sur, Duqm and Suwaiq to be used for receiving cruise ships in future.
