VWC keen to preserve historic landmarks in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, April 4: The Voluntary Work Center (VWC) Chairperson Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah affirmed Thursday keenness to preserve historic landmarks and sites in the country as they represent the genuine Kuwaiti identity and tradition.

Sheikha Amthal made her remarks to KUNA while inspecting the historic Weapon's Market in Kuwait City in light of recent social media reports on the government's plan to remove it permanently.

The market is affiliated with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) in accordance with law 2555 of 2018 to preserve historic and archeological sites and ban subjecting them to damage or excavations, she said.

VWC is willing to cooperate and participate in restoring historic buildings and preserving their traditional shape without posing any confl ict with citizens' privately-owned properties, she affirmed. (KUNA)
