International conference on violent extremism opens in Jordan

Amman, Mar. 18 (Petra) -- An international conference on combating violent extremism, organized by the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) in cooperation with the U.S. opened on Monday on Dead Sea shores.

A number of specialists and experts will deliver speeches at the three-day conference on the overall frameworks, objectives and messages needed to fight violent extremism, which now employs social media for further proliferation.

Brig. Nasser Muhairat, who deputized for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivered a speech on the new form of intellectual extremism and terrorism, which he said, "is low cost and highly influential by taking the battle to cyberspace using the tools of globalization, encrypted communications and digital currencies."

The conference, attended by Arab and foreign participants, will see expert papers discussed.
