KABUL: A large number of the Kunar residents launched a
rally to support the peace process, chanting the slogans of 'Stop Afghan Genocide'
and 'War is Enough'.
The activists of the rally called on the government to
accelerate the peace efforts and reach an agreement over ceasefire with the
Taliban, thus to ensure a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
Participants of the rally reiterated their call on the
warring parties to declare a ceasefire.
It comes as the people in Helmand province had earlier
launched a demonstration after a suicide bombing outside of the stadium in
provincial capital city of Lashkargah last year.
A group of eight protestors then left Helmand walking
towards Kabul.
The protestors walked through towns and villages, crossed
provinces and met with local residents all the way long.
The group of eight protestors had grown up to an estimated
of 100 and after 38 days journey on June 18, 2018 arrived in Kabul.
They demanded both the Afghan government and the Taliban to
observe a ceasefire.
The group has given three days' timeline to the Taliban and
said that in case of no response from the Taliban they would wait and keep on
protests outside of the diplomatic offices in Kabul.
The activists held protest outside the UNAMA's office in
Kabul, and sent a letter to the UN Secretary General, Anotonio Guterres in
which they asked ending of ongoing war in Afghanistan.
After that, they have moved to the US embassy in Kabul and
stayed there for nine days.
They have sent a letter to the American people to persuade
their government to end 17 years long war in Afghanistan.
The activists were made up of 17 to 65 years of ages
included athletes and farmers.
The activists also staged demos in front of Iranian,
Pakistan, Russia and British embassies as well as European Union office in
Kabul.
