ABU DHABI, 2nd January, 2019 (WAM) -- Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Vice President of the Supreme Local Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup, UAE 2019, has stated that the UAE will present to Asia and the entire world, a historic championship that will remain indelible mark in the memories of their peoples.

He highlighted the high-level organisational planning and preparations conducted by the event's Supreme Local Organising Committee, led by H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The 17th edition of the event will be held from 5th January to 1st February, 2019.

He thanked the UAE wise leadership and praised their role in helping the country accomplish sporting achievements and ensuring the success of international and continental sporting activities and events held in the country, which has become therefore an international sports hub.

"We welcome the Asian national teams in the land of peace and tolerance that play host to many cultures and where all nationalities coexist in love and harmony. The UAE is significantly present in the international sporting scene, where it has achieved success, including in the recent FIFA Club World Cup, where Al Ain achieved an impressive accomplishment for Emirati football by coming as runners-up," Al Rumaithi said.

"Organising the AFC Asian Cup 2019 is of a significant importance to the UAE and is an occasion to express our pride and honour for the wise leadership and their generous support for sports in the country. We again have an opportunity to host a leading event and impress the world with our world-class sporting venues, tourist facilities, and cultural and historical landmarks," he added.

He added that the event's Supreme Local Organising Committee, over the course of its meetings with all the groups, paid great attention to organising the championship at the highest levels, in keeping with the UAE's stature and its excellent relations with international sports federations, including the Asian Football Confederation.

"The national team are well prepared for the championship and they are determined to deliver their best," he added.

He stressed that the crowds play a big role in making the country's dreams come true, citing the example of Al Ain's spectators whose impressive presence in the recent FIFA Club World Cup matches earned their team a worldwide acclaim.
