Burglar climbs scaffolding to break into Kowloon flat

Police are hunting a burglar after a break-in at an upscale apartment on Mount Beacon in Kowloon on Wednesday. At 9 am, a 60-year-old woman called police to report that the apartment at Dynasty Height Skylodge had been ransacked.

A safe had been prised open with valuables inside the safe were missing, news website HK01.com reported.

She said a total of HK$140,000 (US$17,925) worth of valuables, including a watch worth about HK$30,000, jewelry worth HK$100,000 and foreign currency worth HK$8,000 had been stored in the safe.

The crime investigation unit of Sham Shui Po Police Station was investigating the case. So far, no arrests have been made.

The apartment was on the 10th floor of the building and bamboo scaffolding had been erected outside. At 10 pm the night before, a security guard found a rope outside the window of an apartment on the 5th floor. He tried to inform the residents, but they were out of town.

Police did not rule out the possibility that the burglar used the rope to in the break-in.
