The Turkish Air Force conducted a military operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist group in the northern districts of Iraq - Avashin, Metina and Zap on Sept. 21, the Turkish General Staff said in a message.
'During the operation, the Turkish Air Force eliminated at least 8 PKK militants and destroyed strongholds of terrorists,' the message said.
In recent days, the Turkish Air Force has been conducting regular operations against the PKK in northern Iraq.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted more than 25 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
