Oman- MoH seminar discusses medical malpractices


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Undersecretary's Office for Health Affairs, organised a seminar on 'Medical Malpractices' at the Training Centre of Petroleum Development of Oman on Wednesday.

The event was held under the patronage of H E Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in MoH.

Around 60 participants, including specialists in medical error, healthcare professionals, members of the Higher Medical Committee (HMC) along with members of technical medical committees from across the sultanate attended the seminar.

H E Dr Hosni said that the seminar aimed to upgrade the investigation system in the field of medical errors.

He added that the sultanate hosted Prof Mohammed Ranavaya from Marshall University in the US to train HMC members and those of the medical committees in the governorates to study complaints on medical errors in order to protect the rights of both the complainants and the medical practitioners.

In his lecture, Prof Ranavaya defined medical malpractices, and explained the medical errors and laws in the US and the mechanism of dealing with these. He also discussed ways to develop work mechanisms of medical committees related to medical errors.
