Egypt forces repulse suicide attack on church

(MENAFN) Egyptian forces have repulsed an attack on a church in Cairo before the suicide attacker set himself off, according to state-run Ahram news website.

The attacker tried to get into the crowds of Copts, who were celebrating the birthday of Mary that began on Aug. 7, outside Al-Azra Church in Shoubra district in north of the capital.

It added that the suicide blasted himself on a bridge overlooking the church for the tightened security around the church.

Official news agency MENA confirmed that the man putting phosphoric jacket has set off the belt about 250 meters away from the church.
