Iraq's former parliament chief rejects joining sectarian alliances

(MENAFN) Iraqi Sunni former parliament chief Salim al-Jubouri has refused to be part of any political alliance on sectarian bases.

The former chief made the statement, emphasizing how a recent meeting of Iraqi Sunni leaders in Turkey has been "causal".

The former parliament speaker "will not be part of any sectarian formation," a statement his office released stressed.

Al-Jubouri said that a reported meeting of Sunni political powers in Turkey "was casual, and has not resulted in anything."

He added that "meetings continue in Baghdad among political blocs for the formulation of common objectives that facilitate the work of the next government."
