This is why UAE consumers must ask for tax receipt when buying goods


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai - The Federal Tax Authority (FTA)has asked all UAE consumers todemand tax receipts fromretailerswhen purchasing products or servicesto preventattempts to manipulatethe tax system.

The Authorityurgedalltaxable businessesto issue tax invoices whenprovidingany supply,in order to avoid administrativepenalties.

In a new statement issued on Sunday, it stressedthatfailure to issue a tax invoice or alternative documentwhen making any supplywill expose the taxable businessto anadministrativepenaltyofDh5,000for each tax invoice or alternative document.

Similarly,failureto issue atax credit noteor alternativeincursan administrativepenaltyofDh5,000 for each notice or alternative document.

The FTAurged consumerstoverifytheVAT amounton pricesdisplayedin tax invoices.

The Authority hadlaunchedonline instruments and services toenable consumers to easily verifythe value of the tax- namely, the VAT Calculator, toensure that theissuerof the invoice is actually registered with theFTA, through the TRN Verification service.

The services were launched to protect consumer rights and prevent attempts to take advantage of the UAE tax system to manipulate prices, the Authority explained.
