Chile: over five people killed in destructive landslide

(MENAFN) In southern Chile, more than five people have died as several homes were smashed in a landslide originated from torrential rain.

Post the tragedy, fifteen people were reported missing in the isolated Villa Santa Lucia village in a lake region that attracts tourists.

A state of emergency in the area has been announced by President Michelle Bachelet as electricity is yet to be restored leading a great number of people to be secluded from the rest of Chile.

President Bachelet assured "I have ordered rescue workers to put all the resources necessary towards protecting the people of Villa Santa Lucia."
