(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Prime Minister also said the project is another stride made by Aqaba towards sustainable development and creative solutions to address water and energy scarcity.

He said the venture is broadly consistent with the National Green Growth Plan in the Kingdom which relies on "flexible economy" that generates income and jobs.

"The eco-venture would generate electricity and provide freshwater through efficient solar energy", Mulqi said.

He also voiced the hope that the innovative project would be one of many other projects that turn dry areas to green lands in Jordan.

Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Norway, Haakon, who participated in the project's opening, said the climate change was a major challenge facing both Jordan and Norway and other world countries, noting the importance of exploiting real opportunities arising from these challenges.

He also underscored the importance of this initiative which would serve the common goals of fighting poverty and achieving sustainable development.

Haakon expressed confidence that the Sahara project would be a successful model for eco-investments and noted that Jordan has become a role model for sustainable development in the region.
