Kuwait Sports Deaf Club thanks contributors to lifting WFD suspension


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, July 18 (KUNA) -- Head of Kuwait Sports Club for the Deaf Aidan Al-Shali expressed on Tuesday his gratitude to those who contributed to the lifting of Kuwait's membership suspension of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).

Al-Shali said, in remarks to KUNA, Kuwait's participation in the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) conference comes after lifting the suspension on Kuwait sanctioned by the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation.

He endorsed the efforts exerted by Kuwait's club chairperson and members to lift the suspension.

The conference is tackling a number of issues concerning deaf athletes across the organisation's 168 member states.

The 2017 Summer Deaflympics will kick off later on Tuesday in Samsun city, northern Turkey, with the participation of 3,000 athletes representing 97 countries.

The first championship for the deaf was launched in Paris, France in 1924.

The United States of America is the moste decorated country in the event, having amassed 987 medals, including 350 gold. (end) rs.lb
