Police use social media to trace owner of lost smartphone
Resourceful Bangalore police officers used social media to connect with the owner of a lost iPhone, according to media reports.
Ameer Humza, a constable with Ulsoor traffic police station, found an iPhone 6s on Saturday while on duty on Indiranagar's 100 Feet Road. He waited there for a long time, hoping the owner of the high-end phone would return to look for it. When no one turned up, he went back to the station and handed the phone over to Inspector Yogesh Sarji.
The DailyBrief Must-reads from across Asia - directly to your inboxSarji was quoted as saying, "The phone was locked, so we had no option to make any calls. But every phone has the option of making an emergency call, so we made a call to the control room (100)."
After getting the owner's information from the control room, they successfully searched for the woman's name on social media and dropped her a message. They later received a call from the owner of the phone, and she asked them to hand it over to her friend.
