Jordan- Indian president, foreign minister discuss ties, region


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, on Sunday, received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, and explored means to strike closer Jordanian-Indo ties in various domains.

They looked into potential areas of economic cooperation, launching joint ventures and ways to expand the two-way trade exchange which amounted to $1.8 billion in 2014. The two sides discussed efforts to counter terrorism and extremism, which threaten the region and the world, as well as the importance of embarking on a strategic approach to fight terror and intensifying international coordination in this regard.

Speaking on developments in the Palestinian territories, the foreign minister reiterated Jordan's call for a negotiated solution that brings about the two-state solution leading to an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The talks dealt with the latest developments in Libya, Yemen, Iraq and Syria.

The Indian president the commended Jordan's key role and efforts to achieve security and stability in the region, stressing his country's support for such endeavors.
