"Decisive Storm" lasts till goals are achieved - Saudi FM


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Saudi-led military campaign against Houthi militias will continue to defend legitimacy in Yemen till the country restores stablility, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal said in remarks published on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia is not calling for war, but is ready if drums of war are banged, the Minister added during a Shura Council session.

The Operation Decisive Storm "will carry on defending legitimacy in Yemen until it achieves its goals, and Yemen is back to security, stability and unity" Al-Faisal accused the Iranian-backed militias and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh of tampering with the country.

Yemen's security is integral to the Kingdom, the Gulf and the Arab national security, he stressed.

On Syria, the Minister lashed out at those who let down the Syrian people, saying they carried a stigma.

The Kingdom supports efforts to "resuscitate the Arab and international conscience to end the humanitarian calamity in Syria, he added.

Al-Faisal stressed that a settlement for the situation in Syria has to be based on Geneva I, and efforts to realize military balance on the ground to force the regime to respond to a peaceful solution.

Referring to Iraq, the chief diplomat said that the formation of a new government created optimism, and Riyadh supported it, pointing to efforts to promote bilateral ties and re-open the Saudi embassy in Baghdad.
