Banking Facilities to Private Sector in Jordan Drop


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) man April 18 - Bank facilities granted to the private sector in Jordan have dropped by the end of February to 17 billion dinars a drop of about 400 million dinars compared to 17.4 billion dinars at the end of last year. Jordan Central Bank said in a press release today that the construction sector had topped the recipients of bank facilities as it got 4.22 billion dinars from the overall credit facilities followed by general trade sector with facilities of 3.55 billion dinars the industrial sector with facilities of 2.58 billion dinars and public services and utilities sector which received 2.08 billion dinars. The banking facilities granted to the private sector reached at the end of 2013 an amount of 17.4 billion dinars compared to 16.2 billion dinars at the end of 2012 an increase of 1.2 billion dinars. As for the total facilities granted by banks they reached the end of February18.6 billion dinars down from its level at the end of 2013. The total credit facilities saw a rapid growth during the past three years after it came under sharp fluctuations in late 2008 and early 2009 as a result of fear of banks to expand lending operations which led to the banks' reduction of the size of the facilities especially for individuals and the industrial sector.
