Khalili, Nicholson talk peace, stability in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): High Peace Council (HPC) chairman Karim Khalili and US and NATO forces commander in Kabul Gen. John Nicholson have discussed peace and stability in Afghanistan.

A statement from the HPC to Pajhwok Afghan News said the two sides discussed some important issues concerning peace and stability in the country.

Gen. John Nicholson termed the recent meeting of the alliance€™s leaders in Brussels and their commitments and support with the war-hit country as crucial and hoped the assistance would play a crucial role in advancing the peace process.

He welcomed and supported recent efforts of the Afghan government for peace and said NATO member countries supported lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He was pleased with cooperation of the international community with Afghanistan in areas of the peace process, security and development of political and economic situation in the country.

HPC chairman Khalili thanked the Resolute Support (RS) commander and the international community on behalf of the people and the government of Afghanistan for cooperation.

He highlighted some recent developments concerning the peace process and urged the international community to support the HPC in its future efforts for peace.
