Mali: over 16 die in ethnic battles


(MENAFN) The government and local sources declared that over 16 Fulani herders have died in, what is believed to be ethnic battle in central Mali.

Mali is set to go to the polls at the end of July, however, north of the capital Bamako has turned into an outlawed area deployed as a launch pad for jihadist attacks through West Africa which, along with local ethnic fears, has made committing to laws almost impossible and the upcoming elections hard to manage.

Security spokesman Amadou Sangho announced: "I confirm there were clashes between people from the same village (Koumaga), in the circle of Djenne(near Mopti). The army intervened to intervened and counted 16 dead for the moment,".
