Oman- IBM unveils computer smaller than a grain of salt

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- IBM has unveiled what it says is the 'world's smallest computer' at the IBM Think 2018 conference. The 1mm x 1mm chip is part of the company's '5 in 5' collection, which showcases technologies it believes will change the world over the next five years.

IBM's tiny computer is smaller than a coarse grain of salt and reportedly costs less than ten cents to manufacture. An image released by IBM shows an array of 64 motherboards, each with two computers on it.

IBM claims the computer has the power of an x86 chip from 1990. The technology giant said the chip is built to function as a data source for blockchain applications and could also be used in shipment tracking, basic AI tasks as well as anti-counterfeitingoperations.
