Egypt has implemented more than 75% of UN human rights recommendations: Marwan

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt has implemented more than 75% of the UN Human Right Council€™s recommendations and is working to improve human rights conditions in health, education, and social services, and reduce talk of human rights in terms of political rights, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Omar Marwan during a press conference on Tuesday.

The conference was held to discuss Egypt€™s report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva last week.

Marwan said that the report, which he presented to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, is a semi-voluntary report, which confirms the Egyptian state€™s keenness on transparency in dealing with the human rights issue before the international community, represented by international organisations.

On Thursday, Marwan handed the Office of the UN€™s High Commissioner for Human Rights a biannual report on Egypt€™s implementation of recommendations regarding human rights.

Head of the State Information Service (SIS) Diaa Rashwan, who was among the speakers, said Egypt is keen to make progress on the human rights issue as much as it is concerned with dealing with this issue with full transparency before the international community.

Rashwan confirmed that in 2014, Egypt received about 300 comments from the Human Rights Council, of which 223 it accepted, and added that the report that was delivered last week states that Egypt has implemented 75% of these observations during the past period.

He also pointed out that more than 65 countries approved Egypt€™s report during the council€™s opening session in Geneva and did not mention Egypt as one of the 20 countries the council was to discuss human rights issues in.

He concluded that a positive indicator in this matter was reflected in the gratitude conveyed by High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid bin Ra€™ad to Minister Marwan, and his calls for more cooperation between Egypt and the Human Rights Council in the coming period.
