President instructs to collect documents on war crimes of Russia to lodge a suit at ICJ


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has instructed to prepare the documents to lodge a suit at the International Court of Justice over the war crimes of Russia.

He stated this while signing the order on the representation of Ukraine in the legal proceedings in the International Court of Justice regarding the violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the press service of the Head of State reports.

As reported, the President specified that the proceedings concern not only the law of the sea, the elimination of racial discrimination and responsibility for the financing of terrorism, but also set the task to prepare the documents relating to war crimes.

It is noted that the relevant files are already being collected to lodge a suit at the International Court of Justice.

Russia had illegally annexed Crimea four years ago, and the struggle for the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity is ongoing, the President recalled.

In this context, he assured that 'Ukraine has made unprecedented efforts defending its legal positions.

'This concerns legal cases in the International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding Russia's violation of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. This concerns Russia's violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and several other international documents, the Head of State emphasized.
