Pistorius murder sentence increased from six to 15 years

On November 24, Blade runner Oscar Pistorius's prison sentence was increased from six years to 15 years and five months for the brutal murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal increased the sentence after the state argued that the original sentence of six years was lenient.

Pistorius was jailed in July 2016 after being found guilty of murder.

Double-amputee Olympian Oscar Pistorius was charged with murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

On February 14, 2013, police reached Pistorius's house after receiving an emergency call from his neighbor and found Steenkamp dead and a 9 mm pistol.

Pistorius was arrested once before in 2009 for allegedly assaulting a woman.

His previous history with 'domestic violence' was recorded in the charges.

Disgraced South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has suffered injuries in a prison brawl.

Authorities said Pistorius was allegedly part of a fight regarding the use of a public phone.

Pistorius' spokesman said the former athlete had sustained a bruise.

This comes days after his prison sentence for the murder his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was more than doubled to 15 years and five months.

"It is alleged that he was involved in an altercation with another inmate over the use of a public phone" on December 6, according to Attridgeville Correctional Centre spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo.

He said an investigation has been launched to "establish the facts and to ensure that appropriate action is taken as incidents of assaults are not allowed."
