The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) yesterday said that it would pursue legal action in Europe and the United States against the countries which had listed the organization in recently issued terrorist list.
IUMS said that the organisation's reputation has been harmed by the terror list of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain.

'The IUMS reserves the right to pursue all legal avenues to protect its reputation and global standing. A legal request will be submitted to the responsible authorities in the US and Europe to file legal claims to restore and compensate for the harm they inflicted on us. They have damaged our reputation, said IUMS in a press statement.

The terror list was not recognised by the United Nations, it added.

The accusations against IUMS are baseless and utterly false, said the statement.

The step of listing the organisation was an attempt to undermine the religious leadership of an organisation that represents 90,000 Muslim theologians and hundreds of millions of Muslims, for the sake of a political agenda.

IUMS has stood as a bulwark against terrorism and extremism and it stands for the establishment of freedom, justice and equality around the world.

'We work for the betterment of all humanity, promoting equality, justice and peace in an increasingly troubled world, said Professor Ali Al Qaradaghi, who is also the secretary general of IUMS.

Al-Qaradaghi said: 'We at IUMS are not subjected by the desires of any ruler and we do not align ourselves with the agenda of any specific country.

He added: 'I can assure you that we the Ummah have had enough with extremist groups. We have had enough with those individuals who see themselves higher and more righteous than others. We have had enough with the scholars who are driven by the desires of their political rulers.

The IUMS said it will continue to be guided by Quranic verse, identifying difficulties and problems of the Muslim nation, providing solutions within a structure and scholars and theologians will continue their leading role for peaceful co-existence with all of humanity.
