Oman- Aviation academy project makes progress agreement to be signed

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- In a move that is set to pave the way for the launch of Oman's first aviation academy, an agreement of shareholders of Oman Aviation Academy project will be signed by the Omani Authority for Partnership for Development (OAPD) on Wednesday.

The agreement will be signed under the auspices of H E Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry and chairman of the board of trustees of OAPD. The authority is responsible for the development of the academy.

The Oman Aviation Academy will be the first professional aviation training organisation in Oman for pilot training. The project will be developed in partnership with Airbus Helicopters and CAE-Oxford Aviation Academy.

The aim of the project is to create a regional aviation academy for the training of pilots from the ab initio stage up to the point where a cadet secures his Multi-crew Pilots Licence (MPL) or Air Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL).

This qualification will enable graduates to work in any local or international airline. In addition, the academy will provide special training for military pilot training.

OAPD has already signed an agreement with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) to establish and deliver the academic foundation programme for the aviation academy.

The academy, which is planned at Sohar Airport, will play a role in the diversification of the national economy and the development of the local aviation industry by attracting foreign trainee pilots to eventually graduate as pilots with an international accredited pilot certification.
