JasonHumor Resources, LLC Oakland, CA, United States / Entertainment A loan of 5,000 helps my production company shoot a TV Pilot to attract sponsors to fund an entire season. Jason's story
I grew up in Bridgeport, CT playing baseball. With a 1.7 GPA and about to fail out of college, I injured my arm which kept me from pursuing baseball any further. Not content with the path I was on, I focused on my grades and was accepted to a study abroad program in Cyprus, studying international business and globalization. This experience opened my eyes to the amazing world we live in. Catching the travel bug, I then backpacked Latin America for four months while waiting for my invitation to the Peace Corps.
I served in Albania from 2010-2012. Two projects I created from the ground up: 1- helping Albanian clothing manufacturers add more value to their operation and enter new markets; 2- Create Albania's first bagel shop which served as a social business for an anti-trafficking NGO, providing much needed employment to victims of trafficking.
Reintegrating back to the U.S. in a position at a large consulting firm gave me SEVERE reverse culture shock. I was just living in a country where the lack of opportunity plagued their youth, and now I was working a job that made me miserable with all the opportunity in the world staring me in the face.
Born with a natural talent for making people laugh, I started performing stand-up comedy and improv, which lead to an acting class, which lead to a role in my first dramatic play- and the rest is history. Since then I've appeared on MTV, Discovery Channel, National Geographic and the REELZ Network. I've produced a short film, a play and a comedy festival. Next on the list: TV Pilot.
I currently live in the Bay Area with my cat Maggie and in our downtime we enjoy catching the Yankee games on MLB TV.
This loan is special because: It supports a company that brings joy to others
More about this loan Business Description
Humor Resources first started out as a company doing live comedy performances, then pivoted to reating content for other companies, now is a full-cycle production company looking to create larger scale projects. I started this company to entertain. To make people laugh. To bring joy to others. Even with switching focus to larger-scale content, we will still be doing exactly that!
As a production company, it's important to showcase your content. The challenge has been producing high-quality, scalable content, on micro-budgets. With the partners we have in place mixed with the loan from KIVA, we can create a high quality, 28min Pilot episode of "The Bay Area Show". This Pilot will be the first step in creating the high-quality TV and film content we desire to make in the future.
I don't currently have any business partners or employees but often contract talent and crew as necessary. A Producer I've worked with in the past is also helping produce this Pilot, which could potentially lead to a partnership in the future.
What is the purpose of this loan?
After serving in the Peace Corps, I took a job with a big consulting firm. I immediately knew it wasn't a fit. My true passion is Acting, so I left consulting to do exactly that.
Acting is re-active. You audition, and sit around and wait to hear if you landed the part. This is why I started my own production company, Humor Resources, so I can be pro-active and create my own opportunities. I currently have an agreement with two local cable channels in the Bay Area to air a Pilot episode of my own TV production, "The Bay Area Show" (think Colbert Report meets The Eric Andre Show). With this KIVA loan I can purchase the resources to shoot the Pilot that I'll use to pitch to sponsors that will help fund a full season. That season will then be used to pitch to Netflix and larger networks as a proof of concept.
