HH The Amir Lauded For His Support For Cancer Patients


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Al Sidra Association for Psychological Care of Cancer Patients organised an operetta entitled "Sidra of Hope" on Wednesday under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the Amiri Diwan Theatre in Bayan Palace.

The operetta aimed at raising cancer awareness as well as paying tribute to the government of Kuwait led by HH the Amir, the team of medical experts, volunteer groups and individuals as well as cancer survivors for supporting the noble cause of Al Sidra in caring for cancer patients.

The operetta was attended by HH the Amir as well as HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al- Ghanim, former NA Speaker Jasem Al-Kharafi, HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al- Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al- Sabah, members of the diplomatic corps, other distinguished guests and volunteers at Al Sidra Centre. The event commenced with the singing of the Kuwait national anthem followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran by Abdulrahman Al- Kandari. Al Sidra showcased a special video

presentation about the centre and the services it provides to cancer patients. Al Sidra Centre is the psychological support centre for women and their families who are living with cancer. Located beside the Sheikha Badriya Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah building at the Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC), Al Sidra Centre's dedicated staff and volunteers provide information and education along with emotional, social and psychological support for women with cancer at any stage of the disease.

The video presentation also showed women who survived cancer as they thanked Al Sidra Centre for helping them cope with cancer. Al Sidra Association for Psychological Care of Cancer Patients Chief Executive Officer Sheikha Azza Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah thanked all the benefactors, supporters and volunteers of Al Sidra Centre and presented a token of appreciation to HH the Amir for his great financial assistance to the centre in helping cancer patients.

She also thanked all government agencies and institutions as well as individuals like Dr Shafikha Al Awadi, Asst Professor Med, Consultant and Medical Oncologist and Head of the Breast Cancer Unit at the Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC), Consultant at the Psychiatric Hospital Dr Rasil Boresli and therapist Altaf Al-Essa for supporting the centre's projects and the operetta. Special thanks also went out to the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Information.

An awarding ceremony followed where members of the medical community, donors and volunteers received plaques of recognition from HH the Amir, Sheikha Azza and Dr Shafikha Al Awadi. After the awarding ceremony, performers went centre stage for the operetta with Shadi Al-Khaleej and Abdulrahman Al-Kandari singing. Yacoub Al-Sebaee delivered some poetry to the delight of the audience.

Young performers clad in colourful traditional Kuwaiti costumes danced gracefully as singers crooned enthralling the audience and taking them to great musical heights. Composer Anwar was also part of the operetta with Abdullah Abulrasoul directing the show. "It was an amazing cultural show and we would like to congratulate Al Sidra Centre for organising such a great operetta. We would also like to thank the Kuwaiti government under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah for its unwavering support to cancer patients not only to Kuwaitis but also expats," stated Philippine Charge d'Affaires Raul H Dado who attended the operetta with his spouse Chelsie Dado, Vice Consul Shiena Tesorero and Assistant Labour Attache Lily Pearl Guerrero. Spotted also were members of volunteer groups at Al Sidra Centre such as the Ilocano Women Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) led by Farida Al- Halimi, Malikhaing Kulturang Layag (MAKULAY) Filipino Artist Guild headed by Romano Roman, PHILSOC-MSK Chairman Ana Del Mundo and Filipino Cultural Club President Mildred Lacson.
