Numerous people wounded due to explosion at US arms plant

(MENAFN) An explosion at a General Dynamics weapons factory in Camden, Arkansas, has resulted in two injuries and left one person missing, company spokesperson Berkley Whaley confirmed. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, initially described as involving pyrotechnics before being acknowledged as an explosion.

Whaley stated, "At this time, we are working closely with first responders. The incident has led to at least two injuries and one person missing." She assured that General Dynamics is fully cooperating with authorities as they investigate the cause of the explosion.

Details regarding the severity of injuries were not disclosed immediately, nor was the extent of damage to the factory. However, Calhoun County Judge Floyd Nutt described the incident as significant, noting it to be the first of its kind at the Camden plant.

The General Dynamics facility, sprawling over 880,000 square feet, specializes in producing and testing "energetic products," including explosive components used in missiles, rockets, and projectiles. Products manufactured at the site include Hydra rockets, Hellfire and Javelin warheads, 120mm mortars, and propellant charges for 155mm artillery shells, according to the company's website.

The explosion comes amid heightened production at the plant, which has been involved in supplying military equipment such as Javelin missile launchers, artillery shells, and mortars to support US military operations, including significant shipments to Ukraine.
