Qatar Chamber discusses prospects for cooperation with WECP

Doha: Qatar Chamber (QC) recently held a meeting with a delegation from the World energy Cities Partnership (WECP), headed by Mike Savage, Mayor of Halifax, Canada, where the two sides discussed ways and means of enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari said that Qatar is moving steadily to achieve the objectives of its National Vision 2030 and to consolidate the foundations of sustainable development in all sectors, stressing that many of the projects that are held in the country are proceeding in accordance with international environmental standards, and that the preservation of the environment attracts the attention of the Qatari private sector.

For his part, Savage stressed the role of the WECP in enhancing cooperation with member cities in the fields of innovation in the energy sector, diversity and cultural learning and exchange. He also reviewed the latest achievements and programmes of the organisation and future goals and strategic plan.

Pointing out that the delegation's visit to Doha aims to enhance relations with Qatar in the areas of energy, scientific and cultural research, and reaffirm the value of Doha membership for the organisation.

The World Energy Cities Partnership is an international alliance of 20 major energy cities, including Doha, Houston, Halifax, Calgary, Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town, among the others.
