Gabbard Pushes DOJ Review of Trump’s Impeachment-Related Officials

(MENAFN) US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has requested that the Justice Department review two former officials connected to the investigation that led to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment.

A spokesperson for Gabbard’s office confirmed that she prepared criminal referrals involving a whistleblower and a former intelligence community oversight official. However, the statement did not specify what alleged offenses are being considered, according to reports.

It remains the responsibility of Justice Department prosecutors to determine whether any referral leads to a formal criminal investigation.

The move follows Gabbard’s public criticism of how the 2019 whistleblower complaint was managed by former Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson. She has also released documents related to his handling of the matter.

The whistleblower at the center of the case, whose identity has not been disclosed, filed an “urgent concern” alleging that Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

The complaint also raised questions about the handling of records from a phone call between Trump and Zelenskyy, as well as the involvement of Trump’s then-personal attorney Rudy Giuliani in US-Ukraine relations.
