Russia Petrochemical Fire Death Toll Hits Eleven

(MENAFN) The death toll from a devastating blaze at Nizhnekamskneftekhim — one of Russia's largest petrochemical facilities — has climbed to 11, with the search for one missing employee still underway, the company announced Monday.

A total of 25 individuals have been hospitalized across Moscow, Kazan, and Nizhnekamsk, all of whom are reported to be showing "positive progress" in their recovery, according to a company statement.

The search and recovery operation at the plant, situated in Nizhnekamsk in the republic of Tatarstan, is nearing its conclusion, the company added.

"We offer our condolences to the families and friends," the statement read, published on Russian social media platform Max.

The catastrophic fire broke out last Tuesday after a gas mixture ignited during active work at the facility, triggering a blaze that tore through one of the cornerstones of Russia's petrochemical industry and set off a days-long emergency response effort across multiple cities.
