Second US Combat Jet Crashes in Persian Gulf

(MENAFN) A second United States Air Force combat aircraft went down in the Persian Gulf region on Friday, according to reports from local media outlets.

Citing two US officials, The New York Times stated that the sole pilot of the A-10 Warthog was “safely rescued.”

The attack jet reportedly crashed close to the Strait of Hormuz, coinciding with the downing of an Air Force F-15E over Iran, the officials noted, as per the report.

Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt informed CNN that President Donald Trump had been briefed about a US fighter jet being shot down over Iran, which was later confirmed to be an F-15E Strike Eagle.

Requests for comment from the Pentagon and US Central Command were not immediately answered by a news agency.

Media outlets citing US officials report that one member of the F-15E crew has been rescued and is receiving medical attention.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing for the second crew member, whose current condition remains unknown.

According to the reports, the F-15E aircraft is operated by “one pilot and one weapons systems officer.”
