Kolkata Weather Update: A 'Western Disturbance' is a weather pattern that brings rain, snow, and hail from the west. It's about to cause heavy rain, strong winds, and maybe even hailstorms across a huge part of Northwest India in the next few days

A 'Western Disturbance' brings rain and hail from the west. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this system will cause widespread rain and gusty winds over Northwest India. This means we'll get a cool, wet spell instead of the usual early summer heat. The weather system, currently over Balochistan, is moving east. The IMD predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, parts of Rajasthan, UP, and Delhi between April 2 and 4. The rain will be heaviest on April 3 and 4. Higher Himalayan areas might get snow or hail, while the plains could see winds of 40-60 km/h.The weather department says eastern and northeastern regions will also see some action. West Bengal and Sikkim can expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorms until April 2. The IMD also warns that Central India might face intense storms and thunderstorms until April 6, with a chance of hailstorms until April 2.This rain will help spring crops and keep temperatures down, pushing back the early summer heatwave until late April. But, it could also disrupt traffic and outdoor work, especially in the Delhi-NCR region. While farmers welcome the rain for their Rabi crops, a sudden downpour could damage wheat fields or fruit orchards. The weather department predicts that as April goes on, temperatures in Bengal will rise. The state might see 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this season. There's a high chance of heatwaves in Bengal, which could get worse in May.Temperatures in Bengal's western districts could touch 40°C soon, while Kolkata might see 36°C. But this heat is temporary. Storms and rain are likely from Sunday, with all districts expected to get rain on Monday, April 6. Today, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly will have clear skies, but some other districts like the 24 Parganas and Medinipur might see light rain. North Bengal districts can also expect light to moderate showers.
